Tian Chua Can Still Appeal His Sacking Pkr Sec Gen
Former PKR vice-president Tian Chua can still appeal the party's decision to sack him for contesting as an independent candidate in the recent general election, according to Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
The PKR secretary-general reportedly said that the former Batu MP has 14 days to submit his appeal to the party leadership.
"In any party disciplinary decision, there is room for appeal and it can be submitted within 14 days... I am sure he (Tian Chua) would make use of this appeal process, and from there, the appeal board can look into the basis of his appeal," he said, as reported by Bernama.
Saifuddin, who is the home minister, was speaking to reporters after a programme at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport earlier today.
Malaysiakini reported that PKR disciplinary board last night decided to give Tian Chua and four others the boot for going against the party by contesting in the 15th general election as independents or on tickets of other parties.
The other four members axed were Puah Chee Haur from the Parit Buntar division, Ahmad Tarmizi Mohd Ghazali from the Gopeng division and M Mohganan from the Taiping division.
PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail‘Politics is cruel’
Meanwhile, Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim in a statement expressed his sadness to see Tian Chua sacked by the party.
While he does not blame PKR leadership for the decision, Hassan said he regretted not being able to advise his comrade against the latter's decision to stand as an independent in the election.
"I tried to call Tian Chua twice on the eve of the election nomination day. But both calls were not answered by Tian Chua.
"If my call was answered, I would have advised him not to run for the Batu parliamentary seat as an independent against Pakatan Harapan candidate P Prabakaran.
"From my experience as a former secretary-general of Parti Rakyat Malaysia, I understand how party disciplinary rules work, and I could foresee what would happen to Tian Chua should he proceed with his plan to contest against our party.
"And my worry came true. What is done, is done. Nothing to regret. I do not blame PKR or its leaders. But as a close friend, I have the right to be sad about what happened to Tian Chua. Politics is cruel when we go against party discipline," he said.
Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul KarimIn his rather melancholic statement, Hassan then went on to recall the days when Tian Chua decided to leave PRM to join PKR in 1999.
Calling Tian Chua a Reformasi icon, he said the former MP was one of the founding members of Parti Keadilan Nasional, which was the precursor of PKR.
"After he officially became a member of PKR and co-founder of Parti Keadilan Nasional, Tian Chua never looked back. He had always moved forward as a warrior of Reformasi," he said.
Hassan also recalled the iconic moment when Tian Chua showed his bravery during a Reformasi protest (top photo) by sitting in the middle of the road at Dataran Merdeka to stop a police water cannon truck from moving forward to disperse Anwar Ibrahim supporters who were protesting there.
"The scene was really similar to what had happened at the Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China during a protest against the Tiongkok Regime," he said. - Mkini
