Things Turn Ugly When An Avanza Driver Was Caught Flying The Jalur Gemilang Upside Down

A COUNTRY’S flag is no mere piece of artwork. It defines the people of the land and their values and aspirations, among many others.
That said, anyone with a shred of love for his country has every reason to get upset to find the flag of their nation being flown upside down.
In a video on X, a man was visibly pissed when he found an upside down Malaysian flag on an Avanza.
What followed was a loud commotion where the owner of the Avanza was reprimanded for his lack of awareness. The man even pulled off the flag from his vehicle and made a police report.

Who is in the wrong here? According to the driver, it wasn’t done on purpose but the man thinks it is nonsense. Is this simply a case of being oversensitive?
Netizen @update11111 who posted the video also attached the police report for reference. On another note, flying a nation’s flag upside down implies a very negative statement.

“Flags, as powerful emblems of national identity and pride, are deeply respected, yet displaying them upside down in some countries conveys distinct messages, from signaling distress to symbolising a declaration of war,” said news portal Sinar Daily.

According to the portal, the US flag can be displayed this way during natural disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes, signaling the need for urgent assistance. 
It has also been used during civil unrest and political protests to draw attention to societal grievances or dissatisfaction with government policies. The Philippine flag is intentionally flipped upside down during times of war, with the red stripe displayed on top instead of the usual blue. 
This practice is an official declaration of war, symbolising the nation’s resolve and unity during conflicts. No other country uses its flag in this way, making the Philippine tradition uniquely significant. — Focus Malaysia
