“I believe her decision is likely due to dissatisfaction and disappointment on the direction of the party and current internal political scenario at play,” said Dr Afif Bahardin, who is Nurul Izzah’s deputy in Permatang Pauh PKR

She said today she was also quitting as a vice-president, and giving up other government-related posts, saying she would be an “ordinary citizen” and MP
Afif said the grassroots had expected Nurul Izzah to lead and be a “beacon of unity” in the party
“I have conveyed something to her in private but I have not heard anything
“Why did she come to this decision? This is the question that needs to be asked and answered. She has won the vice-presidency through an election,” he said
He urged the PKR leadership to intervene, saying there could be underlying reasons behind Nurul Izzah’s departure
“Certain events have likely led to this. It is not something that happens spontaneously,” said Afif, who lost the contest for the PKR Youth post in the party elections
Nurul Izzah had in her statement today cited developments in the past nine months, saying she should have decided to quit her posts earlier

Earlier today, former PKR Supreme Council member Latheefa Koya questioned the party leadership’s choice of its state chiefs, saying it smacked of cronyism. -FMT
