The Uprising Malays Muslims In Semenyih
FROM a stunning majority of 8,964 in GE14, Pakatan Harapan was made to eat humble pie when it lost to BN by 1,914 majority in the by-election today. The turnaround happened 9 months later.
After all the good showing in the previous by-elections, name Sg Kandis, Seri Setia, Balakong (state seats) and Port Dickson and Cameron Highlands (parliamentary seats), PH seems to be losing steam, and support is thinning.
Maybe the previoys by-elections were in favor of the ruling party due the 'new excitement' after winning Putrajaya, and voters were still on cloud nine after successfully changing a regime.
However, Camerons and Semenyih have proven otherwise. With major promises undelivered and so many flip-flops shrouding the government, the protest votes prevail. Besides the strong cooperation between Umno and Pas - which is uniting the Malay and the Muslims - it turned out as a warning bell for Dr Mahathir, Lim Kit Siang, Anwar Ibrahim and the rest that the rakyat is not to be fooled easily.
Chances were given to them, and it maybe had come only once!
It is well understood that the ruling party always has the edge in any by-election for having full control of everything, including money and mercenaries but they have forgotten that they cannot control the people's power.
Semenyih is an episode of 'power-showing' by Umno and Pas, and the Malay power is something to be reckoned with. While the non-Malays, who form the majority in some places, notably the urbans, they too have forgotten that the majority Malays are actually the decision-maker for the country.
There is a little race-centric in Camerons and Semenyih but racism is for each and single race in the world to subscribe. Who doesn't. But being a racist does not make you a bad person if racism is just about championing your rights without taking it from others. It is for mutual benefit.
Umno and Pas have proved. While fighting for the Malay-Muslim cause, they treat the non-Malays equally, as Malaysians.
Perhaps Semenyih is a wake-up call for Dr M and his Cabinet and also a warning not to toy around with the people by making empty promises. This is not the era of his 22-year tenure, this is a complete political revolution.
For the non-Malays, it is also a clear message that in any discipline they take, they would still need the Malays. This is Malaysia, not China, India or any other country!
Congratulation Barisan Nasional. Rantau will be next. Will PH ignore Umno-Pas again? To Dr M, is Umno dead?
