The Difference Between Fibre And Broadband
With the popularity of fibre optic internet. Almost everyone has access to fibre optic internet and broadband. What does this mean? What does how many megabits of fibre mean? What is the relationship between broadband and fibre optics? Let’s all find out together!
What is optical fibre?
Optical fibre is a transmission tool made of high purity glass. Light is used as the information carrier to transmit information. The construction of the network belongs to the physical layer of the basic link. Correspondingly: there are also twisted-pair cables for the transmission of electrical signals and so on. The benefits of fibre optic communication are, of course: complete signal transmission, large bandwidth and high resistance to interference.
What is broadband?
By broadband, we mean the internet bandwidth that we lease from our operator on a daily basis. For example, 100 megabit broadband: means that you rent 100 megabytes of bandwidth from your operator to receive data from the internet. Of course, there is a difference between what we commonly refer to as bandwidth and what is academically referred to as bandwidth.
What are megabits of fibre?
Megabits of fibre refer to the bandwidth you lease from your carrier to receive data from the internet is transmitted over a basic transmission tool like fibre.
What is the relationship between broadband and fibre?
This refers to the fact that the broadband we lease from the operator is transmitted via fibre optics. Either we receive the signal or transmit it. In the section from the terminal equipment to the optical modem is used the electrical signal. Fibre optics and broadband are actually two different concepts. Optical fibre is a form of the light pulse to transmit signals in the form of glass or plexiglass, etc. as a network transmission medium. It is a transmission medium, just like a twisted pair, thick cable, thin cable, etc., except that its transmission speed is much faster than ordinary media, and can reach more than a gigabit per second. To put it simply, broadband refers to a high transmission speed network access method, while fibre optics is the transmission medium, not the same concept. It can be understood as one of the ways to achieve broadband transmission.
Taken an example, Unifi fibre coverage has been widely applied for most internet users in Malaysia, the advantages of fibre optic broadband are the low cost of network equipment such as hubs and Ethernet switches and the fact that users do not need to install ADSL modems and Fibre broadband users invest less and cost less.
