The Deal To Defeat No Confidence Motion Against Mahathir
Dr Mahathir was subjected to mounting pressure by Anwar’s camp, supported especially by those in DAP and PKR following Pakatan Harapan crushing defeat at the Tanjung Piai by-election where the ruling coalition suffered its fourth and worst defeat in the five by-polls held this year.(The Mole) – Three Facebook groups that have been rallying for PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s accession as prime minister yesterday posted an ongoing countdown of when it was supposed to happen – on May 9, 2020
The live timer which has yet to gain significant traction, at press time, came in the wake of a controversial meeting said to discuss ways to thwart plans of a supposed coup against Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad
Dr Mahathir was subjected to mounting pressure by Anwar’s camp, supported especially by those in DAP and PKR following Pakatan Harapan crushing defeat at the Tanjung Piai by-election where the ruling coalition suffered its fourth and worst defeat in the five by-polls held this year
Two individuals were shoved into the limelight since the meeting, Anwar’s deputy, Datuk Seri Mohamad Azmin Ali – whose residence became the venue of the Monday night meeting – and former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein
While the latter denied the allegation of leading the group of 22 Umno lawmakers to Azmin’s house, his accusers had scoffed and insisted that Hishammuddin was indeed the mastermind of the intrigue
Following this development, sources within Umno, known to be supporting the idea of resisting Anwar’s takeover of Putrajaya, have told The Mole that a deal had been agreed between a group of Umno leaders and Dr Mahathir
They said this group of party leaders are now in the process of convincing not just Umno lawmakers but also division leaders to support the supposed plan
According to the sources, the alleged plan is that Dr Mahathir will eventually uproot Pribumi Bersatu from Pakatan Harapan along with several PKR and Amanah leaders to join Barisan Nasional and its allies to form a new government
On their end, the group of Umno leaders supposedly need to completely oust embattled Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and remove former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak from the party in order to effectively “cleanse Umno of corruption and money politics.”“In exchange for their peaceful departure from the party, the duo will have their charges dropped. We need to do this because as long as Najib and Zahid continue to be in Umno, the party will never be able to rejuvenate itself,” said a source
Aside from Zahid and Najib, several other Umno leaders will also be removed from the party for the same reason under the plan and they include party treasurer Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Pasir Salak member of parliament Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman
The sources were however not clear on when the plan will fully takes effect
“For now, what’s really matter is for us to prevent the no confidence vote against Dr Mahathir. We cannot let Anwar takes over the seat of power in Putrajaya as it would be bad for Umno, the people and Malaysia,” said one of them
