Takiyuddin Preparing Reply Over Referral To Parliament Disciplinary Panel

Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (Third from right) said he will respond to the government backbenchers’ motion to refer him to the Parliamentary Rights and Freedom Committee in the Dewan Rakyat next week. — STR/SHARIFAH MAHSINAH ABDULLAHKOTA BARU: Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said he will respond to the government backbenchers' motion to refer him to the Parliamentary Rights and Freedom Committee in the Dewan Rakyat next week.
Takiyuddin said he was preparing his written response to submit to the speaker.
"I was given seven days to respond to the issue regarding my referral to the committee during next week's parliamentary session.
"I am in the process of preparing my reply, which will be handed over to the speaker. It is then up to the speaker to decide on the next course of action," said the Pas secretary-general.
Takiyuddin, who is Kota Baru member of parliament, was speaking after attending the opening ceremony of the Berek 12 wet market here today.
Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud officiated in the event.
Commenting on the issue involving the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) training at Masjid Rusila, Takiyuddin said he considered the matter closed after an explanation by the home minister.
"I believe the matter is resolved as the home minister has clarified that it was part of a training exercise. However, PN hopes such incidents will not recur," he said.
On Oct 27, the government backbenchers filed a motion to refer Takiyuddin to the Parliamentary Rights and Freedom Committee.
The committee reviews an MPs' conduct that allegedly breached ethics or rights, and recommends disciplinary or policy action.
The move followed Takiyuddin's alleged remarks linking a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) training session to the 1985 Memali incident.
Backbencher Suhaizan Kaiat (PH–Pulai) said the motion was under the consideration of Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, who also chaired the committee. - NST
