Syerleena Claims To Be Targeted By Coordinated Social Media Attacks
Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid has claimed that she is being targeted by coordinated social media attacks that use defamatory videos, hateful narratives, and the distortion of facts against her.
Syerleena said in a statement that the attacks against her by three TikTok accounts crossed the line of freedom of expression.
“These videos are not just ordinary criticism or political commentary. It has crossed an important line that should be understood by every responsible Malaysian citizen - the line between freedom of expression and incitement to hatred and deliberate violence,” she said.
The videos had berated Syerleena for commenting on the tourism potential of Kedah’s Lembah Bujang, famous for its ancient Hindu-Buddhist temples, and videos that claimed that she was biased because she criticised a pizza company for releasing a box featuring the image of Dewa Murugan, revered in Hinduism.
Her assistant had filed two separate police reports against the videos at the Timur Laut police station in Penang yesterday.

Syerleena Abdul Rashid’s aide lodging a police report at the Timur Laut district police headquartersSyerleena also said that the videos were not meant to disseminate constructive information, but to provoke, as they twisted her words, distorted her intentions, and created baseless and false allegations.
“More dangerously, they exploited religious sentiments and gender stereotypes to dehumanise me in the eyes of the viewers.
“This is not just an attack on my personality, but an attack on the values of manners, decency, and respect that Malaysians have always held dear.
“I condemn these videos in the strongest terms,” she said, adding that she is open to honest debates and accountability processes.
She further said that social media platforms should not be indifferent to the dangers that arise from their algorithms.
“I urge these platforms to act decisively: remove contents that violate guidelines, suspend accounts that repeatedly engage in organised harassment and increase content moderation in Malaysia, especially that involving political information,” she said. - Mkini
