Syed Saddiq To Speak To Muda Leadership Before Joining Pn Roadshow
Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said he received a call from Muda after PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin announced that he will be part of the coalition’s nationwide roadshow.PETALING JAYA: Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman says he will discuss with the Muda leadership first before joining Perikatan Nasional’s tour across the country to explain current affairs to the public.
The Muar MP and former Muda president said he had received a call from the party leadership regarding the matter.
“I’m still a party man, so I will discuss this matter with the leadership first before deciding on whether to join the roadshow,” he told a press conference at Parliament today.
On Saturday, PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said PN had agreed to hold a nationwide tour after the fasting month to highlight the various issues faced by the people and what PN can do.
Play“Many, including Syed Saddiq from Muda, have suggested we do this, and he is ready to participate,” Muhyiddin said.
However, Muda secretary-general Amir Hadi denied that the party would be involved in the roadshow.
In a posting on X, Amir said Muda’s participation in the roadshow had not been discussed by the party’s executive council.
Syed Saddiq, a founder of Muda, was its president until November last year, when he stepped down following his conviction on a corruption charge. He is appealing against his conviction.
On a separate matter, Syed Saddiq questioned why no one from the government bloc has tabled a motion to discuss abolishing pensions for politicians.
“After I raised this issue in Parliament, I received a response from the speaker’s office saying that my proposal was rejected,” he said.
“The explanation given was reasonable. It was that the motion could only be initiated by someone from the government bloc.”
Last month, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said proposals to abolish pensions for politicians will first be discussed by the Cabinet and then brought to Parliament.
He said that as a moral responsibility, the matter needs to be tabled and fully explained because it would be difficult to rationalise if politicians were excluded from pension reform. - FMT
