(Bernama pic)KUALA TERENGGANU: A new remuneration system for civil servants is under study following the increase in the poverty line to RM2,008 a month, said chief secretary to the government Zuki Ali.
However, the new pay scheme would be subject to the government’s financial position, he said.
“The public service reform committee, which is chaired by the prime minister, is looking into the matter. The public service department (JPA) has conducted a study and appointed a consultant, so let’s wait,” he said.
Zuki said the government was studying the matter following the increase in the country’s poverty line, with families with a household income of RM2,008 now categorised as ‘poor’.
He was responding to a call by Cuepacs for the government to review the remuneration system which is currently seen as irrelevant.
Cuepacs president Adnan Mat reportedly said many civil servants were still below the poverty line, and that Malaysia was far from becoming a high-income nation by 2025 under the 12th Malaysia Plan.
Speaking to the media at a signing off ceremony at the Terengganu state secretary’s office today, Zuki said JPA was also preparing a circular on the government’s decision to allow teachers and staff of the community development department to return to politics.
“JPA is in the final stage of preparing the guidelines,” he said.
Recently, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the government had decided to allow teachers and Kemas staff to be involved in politics. - FMT
