Stop Riding On Race Religion Adam Tells Pas Counterpart

PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim has fired back at his PAS counterpart over the latter’s comment about Pakatan Harapan and BN’s “demise" in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
He said PAS should stop riding on religion and demonising DAP.
“There’s another disease out there, which is not only dangerous to political leaders. It is equally harmful, like a pandemic for people confused by it.
“It is racial politics and ‘riding on religion’. It spreads fast and is hard to cure. It causes the rakyat to split and live in distrust of each other,” Adam (above) said in a statement today.
He was responding to a remark by PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden earlier today that Umno’s “power abuse” disease has infected Harapan as well.
Afnan predicted that Harapan and BN would “die together” in the Kuala Kubu Baharu polls on May 11 and urged Umno supporters to vote for the Perikatan Nasional candidate.
PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib AzamuddenAdam accused PN of becoming “senile” after losing power and urged the coalition to stop confusing the rakyat with accusations that are not based on facts.
The deputy youth and sports minister said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had already assured that no government machinery would be used for the by-election.
“Don’t confuse the people by accusing us (Harapan) of abusing power when leaders announce government initiatives while campaigning.
“That is a norm for any government party. As the government, we want the rakyat to make political decisions based on initiatives that benefit them, not empty sentiments,” Adam added.
‘Don’t launch personal attacks’
Adam then challenged PAS and PN components to campaign in Kuala Kubu Baharu without raising racial and religious sentiments “for once”.
“PAS Youth should talk about government initiatives, the economy, and social programmes while campaigning. Don’t launch personal attacks against political leaders.
“Let the people choose based on the competing parties’ ability to administer a state, or the country, rather than through narrow racial and religious lenses.
“For once, try to campaign without using the terms ‘salah DAP’ (DAP’s fault), or ‘musuh Islam’ (enemies of Islam). These do not benefit anyone,” Adam said.
A total of 40,226 Kuala Kubu Baharu voters are eligible to cast their ballots on May 11 to elect a new representative for the state seat.
The seat, which fell vacant following the death of its incumbent Lee Kee Hiong last month, comprises 46 percent Malay voters, followed by Chinese (31 percent), Indians (18 percent), and others (five percent). - Mkini
