Stop Bickering Over Trivial Matters Focus On Future Needs Says Anwar

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has urged Malaysians to stop bickering over trivial matters and focus on enhancing the country’s competency in key sectors such as artificial intelligence, digitalisation, and renewable energy, as other nations race ahead.
Anwar said countries such as China, Japan, the US, and Europe are focusing on energy transition and targeting to reduce their dependence on non-renewable resources.
“(Yet) we are making a ruckus and fighting over trivial matters. It’s the responsibility of everyone, including private sector companies, holding companies and government departments to focus (on the right things).
“First, improve our efficiency, and provide better services while stopping the practice of taking advantage (of our positions) to flaunt ourselves and our family in a showy manner,” he said at an event at Alamanda Shopping Centre here today.
Last Friday, Anwar said Malaysia and France had agreed to enhance cooperation in sectors such as defence, economy, energy, trade and investment, tourism, and AI.
He said the agreements were made after a phone conversation with French president Emmanuel Macron to discuss the progress of the G20 Summit held in Brazil last year.
Both leaders also touched on issues related to the Myanmar civil war, and agreed to seek a diplomatic solution to achieve peace in the country.
On a separate matter, Anwar reiterated that efforts to combat corruption were not based on personal vendetta but rather to ensure good governance.
He said the anti-corruption authorities were given complete freedom to perform their duties and he had never intervened in their investigations. - FMT
