Sabah state secretary Safar Untong (centre) speaking to a motorist at Jalan Kepayan in Kota Kinabalu today.KOTA KINABALU: State secretary Safar Untong has voiced his disappointment with the casual approach of people to travel restrictions, three days after the movement control order (MCO) came into effect
“After seeing the movements of people since yesterday, it is as if there is no MCO. I was coincidentally in the field and I saw many people on the road,” he told reporters at a roadblock by Sabah police on Jalan Kepayan here today
Safar took part in the operation, advising the motorists to return home if they were not working in essential services or did not have any valid purpose to be out
“Some of the excuses given by the motorists I spoke to was that they were fetching their wives, buying food and going to the bank
“Some were people in the essential services. My advice to them is to always bring their department cards to prove their identities,” he said
Sabah state secretary Safar Untong (centre) speaking to the media.City police chief Habibi Majinji said police will continue with their 24-hour efforts to enforce the MCO by having roadblocks and daily patrols
He said the roadblocks will mainly be mounted along Jalan Kepayan and Jalan Tanjung Lipat here, the two main entry points into the city
Most business premises have complied with the MCO. Some are stubborn “but they will usually follow our instructions to shut down”, Habibi said. - FMT
