Shafie Tells Sabahans To Limit Mobility Warns Of State Of Emergency

CORONAVIRUS | Sabah Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal has urged Sabahans to take the movement control order seriously and to play their part in stopping the spread of the coronavirus
The movement control order is a containment period, the first stage of stopping the spread of Covid-19, he was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today
The state government would do its best to ensure the order was enforced, including deploying the police and Rela members on the ground
“The second stage is a lockdown, which comes under the police, and the third, hopefully, we will not reach there, is an emergency order which only the Yang di-Pertuan Agong can announce and the army will be deployed,” Shafie said
"We must avoid a state of emergency. That will be the third stage after police curfew (second stage). It's the last thing we want," he added after chairing the state-level National Security Council meeting yesterday
“We must take this seriously. I know some people will be affected business-wise, but these are different times. The safety and health of people are far more important. This is only for two weeks, not two months or two years
“The reason is to curb and contain this disease from spreading and we need a collective effort from all in the state to achieve this,” Shafie said
Sabah saw a sharp increase of 31 cases in the state yesterday, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases to 103
It was reported that the people were still roaming the streets and having picnics at the beach or carrying out exercises in Kota Kinabalu
In Tuaran, the weekly Tamparuli tamu (market) was opened and the local authority had to instruct it to shut down
"Please follow the order and stay at home. Go out only when you need to. Our focus is to have less mobility
"This is not the time for everyone to travel, and hang around coffee shops. Please give cooperation to the authorities," Shafie was quoted by New Straits Times as saying at a press conference yesterday. - Mkini
