Speaker To Summon Home Minister For Details Of Assault On Rafizi S Son
PARLIAMENT | Speaker Johari Abdul will request a briefing from Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on the assault of Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli’s 12-year-old son.
Johari (above) told the Dewan Rakyat today that if he deems it necessary, he will request Saifuddin to explain the matter to the house.
“This is something very unprecedented,” he said.
This was in response to Wong Chen (Harapan-Subang), who asked for the relevant minister to provide details in the Dewan Rakyat tomorrow morning.
“This is an important matter because it threatens not only the MPs but also our families.
“Our main task in Parliament is to ensure the best security for our country and for the MPs here.
“So if possible, I would like to ask for the grace of the speaker to give some advice and also to direct, if possible, tomorrow morning, the relevant minister to appear in Parliament before us to provide further explanation about this terrible matter.
“We hope that the opposition MPs will support this matter,” he said.

Subang MP Wong ChenWong had raised Standing Order 14(1)(i), which allows statements from ministers to be included in the sitting’s agenda.
Rafizi’s son attacked
Earlier today, Rafizi confirmed that his son was attacked and is undergoing treatment in a hospital.
At the time of writing, details of the incident remain unavailable. However, Malaysiakini understands that the attack occurred at a mall car park in Putrajaya.

Pandan MP Rafizi RamliSepang district police chief Norhizam Bahaman, who was at the hospital where Rafizi’s son is being treated, confirmed the incident.
He told Malaysiakini that the attack occurred at around 1.30pm.
Saifuddin: Cops on the case
In an immediate response, Saifuddin said he spoke to Rafizi as soon as he was informed of the attack.
"I expressed my deepest sympathy and concern to him and his family over the attack involving his child in Putrajaya, and I pray for the child’s speedy recovery and for the family to remain strong during this trial.
"The Home Ministry takes this matter seriously, and the police have been mobilised to conduct a thorough investigation to identify and bring those responsible to justice.
"I must also stress that all investigations are carried out fairly and in accordance with the law, without being influenced by the status or background of any party, in line with the police’s duty to ensure safety and justice for all citizens, including children," he said in a statement.

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution IsmailThe minister assured that public safety is a priority, and there will be no compromise on any form of violence or threat.
"I urge the public not to speculate and to allow the police space to carry out the investigation," he added.
Chang condemns ‘cowardly act’
Separately, Science and Technology Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang condemned the incident, describing it as "clearly premeditated and targeted".
