Siti Kasim Slams Muslim Consumer Group For Proposing Discriminating Halal Colour Scheme
SOCIAL activist Siti Kasim’s aghast at the Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) for mooting a colour halal logo scheme campaign has earned the backing of many non-Muslims who deemed the proposal as “outrightly discriminatory”.
“PPIM is pure trash. He’s (PPIM president Datuk Nadzim Johan) playing the racist card. Halal is halal. Doesn’t matter the source or who made it. I’m sick of these racists,” berated the human rights lawyer Siti Kassim in a Facebook post.
In essence, the tri-colour scheme of green, orange and red would symbolise businesses owned 100% by Muslims, joint venture between Muslims and non-Muslims, and that which are 100%-owned by non-Muslims respectively.
Netizen Davis Tan suggested that the colour scheme merely pointed to “Malay, Mamak and Chinese” which makes the idea very racist sounding.
Another netizen reckoned that it would be better for non-Muslims to stick to selling their products to fellow non-Muslims rather than trying to win the Muslim business at the same time.
Oddly enough, a Malay Muslim woman came forward to describe the PPIM proposal as “a waste of money and a damper the Muhibbah spirit”.
But then, some Muslims beg to differ as they claimed that the “Buy Muslim First” tagline – as opposed to being racist – is intended to enable Bumiputera businesses to compete with Chinese businesses on a more even footing.
