Siti Kasim says she is thankful that good sense has finally prevailed.PETALING JAYA: Lawyer Siti Kasim says she will not be charged over her middle-finger gesture at a forum three years ago as the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has decided not to pursue the matter
The outspoken activist had earlier claimed that she would be charged tomorrow under Section 509 of the Penal Code with outraging the modesty of a person
In a Facebook post today, Siti said an inspector from Subang Jaya had referred her case to the AGC
“They have decided to NFA (no further action) it
“Thank you to IPD Subang, especially the inspector, for taking the file again to the current AGC to check the validity of this malicious charge
“I am thankful as finally, good sense prevailed,” she said
In 2016, Siti, a strong opponent of efforts to strengthen shariah laws in the country, was heckled by participants of a forum on PAS’ plan to introduce heavier penalties for Muslim offenders
A police report was lodged against her after she showed them the middle finger. She was later investigated by the police as well
Siti reportedly said her critics were trying to accuse her of insulting Islam
“But everyone can see the video. I didn’t say anything about Islam. They were heckling and booing me and it was an automatic response
“There was no point in shouting back at them. I flashed my finger to show my contempt for them,” she was quoted as saying by The Australian daily. -FMT
