Sinovac Vaccine Rollout On March 18
Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin says he will be getting the vaccine at his constituency on Thursday.PETALING JAYA: The health ministry will commence use of the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine on March 18, with science, technology and innovation minister Khairy Jamaluddin being the first to receive it.
Khairy, who is also the coordinating minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, said this at a press conference today.
“The rollout will start at Rembau Hospital and I will be the first to be inoculated with the Sinovac vaccine,” the Rembau MP said of the vaccine which is from China.
He added that 100,000 doses of the Sinovac vaccine will arrive today and another batch of 100,000 doses will arrive on March 22.
“Also, 83,070 doses of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine will arrive today followed by another 100,000 doses on March 22 and 125,190 doses on March 29.
“By March 29, the cumulative number of Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine would be at 1,000,350 doses,” he said.
According to Khairy, a total of 292,104 people have received the first dose of the Pfizer-BioNtech as of March 13.
“Of that number, only 302 recipients, or 0.11%, were from elected representative and administrative groups,” he said.
He added that nurses made up the highest number of those who received vaccinations with 23.86%, followed by doctors (22.23%), other health workers such as medical assistants (23.40%), local authorities (21.33%) dentists (5.62%) and pharmacists (3.45%).
On the MySejahtera Covid-19 vaccine registration, he said over 1.4 million users have still not completed their vaccine registration.
He urged people to complete their registration by verifying their personal details and answering the health assessment questions provided in the application.
Meanwhile, health minister Dr Adham Baba said those who had received the first dose of Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine on the first day of the vaccination of National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme will receive the second dose this Wednesday.
“That would be exactly 21 days since the programme was launched. So those who received the vaccine on the first day of the vaccination programme will receive the second dose,” he said.
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah were the first two recipients of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine when the programme was launched on Feb 24. - FMT
