Singapore Waives Vep No Need For Renewals Until June 30

Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) has issued a one-off waiver of vehicle entry permit (VEP) fees for foreign vehicles already in the country
This measure will help Malaysian motorists who were unable to return due to the closure of borders mandated by the movement control order (MCO)
Foreign-registered vehicles are required to pay VEP fees of SG$4 (RM12) a day for motorcycles and SG$35 (RM106) a day for cars
"There is no need for Malaysian motorists to submit an application for the waiver," said the LTA in a statement
The waiver will automatically be processed for motorists who leave Singapore from April 15 onwards
Affected motorists will also have their VEP validity period, which is normally 14 days, automatically extended until June 30
"This will make it easier for Malaysians who have had to remain in Singapore for an extended period to continue working here," said the LTA
The LTA also reminded Malaysian motorists to ensure sufficient value is stored in their Autopass cards for any remaining VEP fees payable, Electronic Road Pricing charges and tolls
They must also ensure that their insurance cover for the duration of their stay in Singapore remain valid
According to a Malaysian working in Singapore, he had been attempting to renew his VEP over the past week but was turned away by the LTA
The VEP is a policy in place since 1973 designed to equalise the cost of using a foreign-registered vehicle in Singapore with owning a Singapore-registered vehicle
Each foreign-vehicle are given 10 free days a year and there are no charges during the weekends. Cars entering Singapore between 5pm and 2am from Monday to Friday are exempted. - Mkini
