Senator Guan Dee Dies
Senator Guan Dee Koh Hoi, who is also Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR Sabah) secretary-general, died at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital here at 4.50pm today. He was 67.
According to the Borneo Post, Guan Dee was admitted to the hospital at 5am this morning by an aide after complaining about chest pains.
Guan Dee was in Kuala Lumpur to attend the Perikatan Nasional meeting on Sunday but did not attend after testing positive for Covid-19.
Guan Dee was sworn in as a senator on last Dec 16 and was made deputy tourism, arts and culture minister on April 16 this year under former premier Muhyiddin Yassin's administration.
The Borneo Post quoted Star president Dr Jeffrey Kitingan who said he was deeply saddened by Guan Dee’s death and the party has lost its most valuable warrior and member.
“He was my most loyal ally and my dearest friend. He has been with me through thick and thin, even when I had nothing, he never left my side, it will be very difficult to replace him,” said Kitingan.
He reportedly said he last spoke to Guan Dee at 10am on Tuesday, while the latter was in hospital.
“He told me he was fine and not to worry. He assured me he will be out in three or four days. It really breaks my heart,” said Kitingan.
It was also reported that Guan Dee's family, with the exception of his wife who also tested positive for Covid-19, are already on their way to Kuala Lumpur. - Mkini
