Selangor Sets Up Committee To Iron Out Greater Klang Valley Details
The Selangor government has established a committee to iron out details on consolidating Klang, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, and Subang into “Greater Klang Valley”, said Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.
According to him, laws in the “metropolis” would be streamlined and standardised for uniform implementation.
“A metropolis is a city with more than a million inhabitants that functions as an administrative, business, trade, industrial and high-tech centre. This project was announced through Budget 2024 with an allocation of RM2 million to combine these four cities.
“The state government has established a standardisation committee under the main committee of the Greater Klang Valley Development Council.
ADS“Expertise, resources, finance and more will be standardised so that there is no overlap, and (to) facilitate the residents’ affairs,” Amirudin wrote on Facebook today, after holding a dialogue session for the 2025 Selangor Budget.
Amirudin added that the Greater Klang Valley has the potential to become a major economic player in Southeast Asia, and is able to be listed as one of the top five metropolises in Asia.
“This achievement would surely boost the state’s prosperity and benefit the people of Selangor.”
Last November, Amirudin envisioned the Greater Klang Valley optimising government resources, reducing redundancy establishing a neighbourhood friendly to the elderly, disabled, and children and meeting Malaysia’s low-carbon city goals.

Amirudin said his administration had studied similar models such as the Greater London Authority, Liverpool City Region and Tokyo Bay Area.
Selangor MB Amirudin ShariHe said efficient administration of the Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya and Klang was necessary as 50 percent of the state’s population reside in these areas and that the areas host most of the state’s industries.
Earlier this year, Amirudin said he would meet with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to discuss a plan to turn the Greater Klang Valley into a special economic zone. - Mkini
