Selangor Pas Youth Urges Severing Ties With Bersatu

Selangor PAS Youth has urged the party’s central leadership to cut ties with Bersatu, describing the existing cooperation as offering no benefit to the party’s struggle.
Its chief, Sukri Omar, said a new and more solid Malay-based political coalition must be urgently reformed to face the upcoming elections.
According to Sukri, the current political landscape demands a new alignment involving Malay parties, including Umno, without ruling out a rebranding of previous cooperation.
“We have entered a new year, and Malay political forces must be united in a stronger and more stable coalition.
ADS“Whether with Umno or any other party, cooperation must be formed to face the coming elections,” he told reporters in Klang today.
Sukri (above) further expressed disappointment with Perikatan Nasional, particularly its relationship with Bersatu, which he said lacked clear direction due to acts of betrayal.
“Selangor PAS Youth firmly urges PAS central leaders to sever ties with Bersatu and move forward by building a larger coalition,” he said.
All-round unhappiness
Tensions between Bersatu and PAS over issues in Perlis, as well as anger among some Umno leaders towards DAP, have revived calls for cooperation between Umno and PAS similar to the Muafakat Nasional pact formed several years ago.
However, friction between Bersatu and PAS has eased slightly following Muhyiddin Yassin’s decision to step down as PN chairperson.
Nevertheless, Sukri said there remains room for renewed cooperation with Umno, including in a form and name different from MN.
“If Umno is willing for us to rebuild Muafakat Nasional 2.0, even under a different name, that is not a problem. What matters is prioritising the interests of Malay Muslims and the people as a whole,” he said.
He also called on PAS supporters angered by current political developments to continue backing the party, regardless of the coalition it joins.
“PAS has never changed in terms of its policies, principles and struggle. What happened previously was that political partners repeatedly betrayed and took advantage of PAS.
“If this situation is allowed to continue, I am confident our efforts to win the next election will be further hampered,” he said.
Yesterday, PAS Youth in the Tasek Gelugor division was also reported to have urged the party leadership to sever ties with Bersatu at all levels.
Its chief, Ikhwan Afiq Anwar, called on the party leadership to take appropriate action against all Bersatu-linked appointments in PN-administered states.
He further suggested that PAS contest all parliamentary and state seats previously won by Bersatu under the PN-PAS logo. - Mkini
