(Bernama pic).PETALING JAYA: A border treaty between Selangor and Negeri Sembilan was signed today, four years after a survey to demarcate a 111.9km stretch in Sepang.
However, 12 other stretches of land on the borders of five states have yet to be settled. The states are Kelantan, Pahang, Perak, Selangor, and Johor.
Energy and natural resources minister Takiyuddin Hassan said border agreements on the 12 sectors have yet to be finalised, Bernama reported.
“Many things cannot be done if (state) borders are not finalised, for example enforcement by local authorities and development planning,” he said.

The treaty between Selangor and Negeri Sembilan is based on a boundary agreement between Selangor and Sungei Ujong signed in February 1878, and a Selangor Gazette notification of November 1909.
Takiyuddin said the treaty signed today covered land and river border alignment from the meeting point of Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Pahang and ending at the mouth of the Sepang river, involving a length of 111.9km.
Among the other sectors still to be settled were a 273km stretch of the Pahang-Kelantan border, a 217km stretch of the Perak-Selangor border and a 176km stretch of the Johor-Pahang border.
“Through the determination of clear boundaries, the state governments will be able to plan and implement development projects in border areas in a more orderly manner,” he said after witnessing the signing of the Selangor-Negeri Sembilan treaty.
A survey of the Selangor-Negeri Sembilan border began in 2016 and was completed two years later.
Takiyuddin and Negeri Sembilan executive councillor Ismail Ahmad witnessed the signing of the treaty.
The treaty on the border was signed by Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari and Selangor state secretary Haris Kasim, and Negeri Sembilan state secretary Razali Ab Malik.
Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun was unable to sign the treaty today due to health reasons and would do so later. - FMT
