AirAsia says the congestion at the klia2 immigration counters is a daily occurrence.PETALING JAYA: AirAsia Berhad hit back at the Malaysian Aviation Commission today, saying it is Mavcom’s duty to get on the ground and investigate the congestion at the klia2 immigration counters
The low-cost airline said it did not have to provide Mavcom any documented details of the congestion, as reportedly requested by the commission
In a statement, AirAsia’ CEO Riad Asmat said this was because the issue had already been widely reported on social media and news platforms
“It only further proves Mavcom’s inaction, indolence and blatant disregard of its responsibility in protecting the rights of aviation consumers,” he said
Riad said it would only take Mavcom officials “a few hours to do a quick visit to KLIA2” to see the seriousness of the congestion was during peak hours
“They can come any day, as it is a daily occurrence and not an isolated incident as they alleged,” he said
Riad said no one from Mavcom had visited AirAsia’s head office at RedQ “which is next to klia2”
“Mind you, we are talking about AirAsia here, the main low-cost carrier (LCC) from Malaysia that is now the 13th largest airline group in the world. Are we not important to Mavcom and Malaysia?”Yesterday, Mavcom accused AirAsia of failing to provide details of the daily congestion at the klia2 immigration counters
The airline industry regulator said it had requested details of AirAsia’s daily documentation after the airline complained in August about the congestion
However, it never received the details, Mavcom said, despite several reminders
Today, the Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) said it supported the work of Mavcom, describing the commission as a “boon to airline passengers”
It said in a statement that Mavcom must remain to ensure that the rights of airline passengers were upheld, and added that complaints from passengers often went unresolved prior to its formation. - FMT
