Save Malaysia 2 0 Rally To Hit Tambun Permatang Pauh Kl
An anti-government rally dubbed “Save Malaysia 2.0” will be held in three stages, starting at Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s parliamentary constituency of Tambun on July 27.
After the Perak town, the rally will hit Permatang Pauh in Penang on Aug 31 and Kuala Lumpur on Sept 16.
Save Malaysia Movement Secretariat chairperson Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said significant dates were chosen to represent the people’s dissatisfaction towards the government.
Aug 31 is Independence Day and Sept 16 is Malaysia Day.
“Since the first Save Malaysia rally on Sept 16 last year, the people’s wellbeing has not improved, in fact, it’s getting worse.
“The people are burdened by the extreme rise in the prices of goods and high cost of living,” Faisal said during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
Tun Faisal Ismail AzizFaisal said there will be three main themes starting with the “People’s Court to Punish Anwar” rally in Tambun, followed by the “Extracting Reform Spirit from Anwar” rally in Permatang Pauh, and lastly the “100,000 Gathering to Save Malaysia” that will be held in Kuala Lumpur.
Rejecting Anwar govt
The secretariat highlighted five demands - rejecting Anwar’s administration; lowering the price of fuel and goods; fighting corruption and abuse of power; returning media freedom, and guaranteeing the sovereignty and safety of the country.
“The people have no choice other than voicing their dissatisfaction against the prime minister and the coalition government (led by) Pakatan Harapan to save our beloved country,” Faisal said.
He expected at least 3,000 people to attend the first rally in Tambun and wanted the people in Anwar’s constituency to support the movement.
“This is a rolling event, starting today until Sept 16. We hope there will be pocket programmes and talks to reach the people, and by Sept 16 it will be bigger.
“It doesn’t matter the number of people in Tambun but we have to start somewhere,” he added.
Last year, the group organised the first Save Malaysia rally on Sept 16 with three demands, including to charge Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi again with corruption following his discharge not amounting to an acquittal in the Yayasan Akalbudi case.
The two other demands were for the independence of the attorney-general and MACC from executive interference; and for the law to be applied to all Malaysians.
