Sarawak Polls 10 548 Security Personnel Spouses To Vote Tomorrow

A total 5,522 policemen will be on duty to ensure the early voting process at 85 centres with 111 streams proceeds smoothly.

Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the police have appointed an officer for each zone in the state involved with the early voting.
"These officers will be responsible to ensure the safety of voters and that the early voting process tomorrow proceeds in a systematic manner," he said.
Apart from the hall at the Sarawak police headquarters in Jalan Badruddin here and district police headquarters around the state, Mancha said other buildings turned into early voting centres include premises belonging to the Police Family Association (Perkep).
Mancha said early voting centres will open from 7.30am until 5pm.
A total 10,548 security personnel comprising the police, General Operations Force (PGA) and Armed Forces as well as their spouses are expected to cast their ballots.
On a related matter, Mancha said the Election Commission (EC) approved 705 of the total 1,200 applications among the police for postal voting.
From the total postal voting among the police approved by the EC, Mancha said 405 of them are working in Sarawak, 208 in West Malaysia and 85 in Sabah.
"The police personnel who applied for postal voting involve those posted in other contingents and still registered voters in Sarawak or at districts which are far from their polling centres," he said.
As of Sunday, police have issued six compounds amounting RM31,000 against those who flouted standard operating procedures (SOP) enforced during this election period.
Police, said Mancha, have opened 39 investigation papers from Nov 11 until Sunday.
"The police received and approved 1,837 permits from candidates and contesting political parties between Dec 6 until 12," he said. - NST
