Sarawak Deputy Minister Assaulted Cops Investigating
Police are investigating the alleged assault of a Sarawak deputy minister on Tuesday.
Sarawak police commissioner Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the deputy minister, who is not identified, was attacked near his home at Tabuan Jaya at 9.06pm on May 30.
“In his complaint, he said he confronted four suspects, believed to be local, because they were acting suspiciously.
“One of them was not happy with this and tried to attack (the deputy minister), causing injuries in the form of a scratch and pain on his back,” Azman (above) said in a statement yesterday.
The case is being investigated under Section 323/506 of the Penal Code, he said.
Urging against public speculation, he called on those with information to contact investigating officer Rathna Borhan at 019-8176267.
Earlier, Sinar Harian reported the deputy minister sought hospital treatment for his injuries before lodging a police report.
Cop fined for parking in disabled spot
Meanwhile, in an unrelated matter, Petaling Jaya police in Selangor confirmed that it had fined its own personnel for abusing a parking lot for the disabled.
The traffic division issued the fine against a personnel, who parked his Honda ST 1300 motorcycle at a disabled parking lot at the Flora Damansara Apartment complex on Monday.
It is learnt the motorcycle was also clamped by the building’s security.
The motorcycle belongs to the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigations and Enforcements Motorcade Division, police said.
The matter was investigated after a Twitter user uploaded a photo of the incident.
The tweet, which was viewed more than 37,000 times, has been deleted.
“We would like to remind all road users to abide by all road signs.
“We will not compromise with any road users, including those from the enforcement agencies, who do not follow the rules, and will take action against anyone who flouts the rules,” Petaling Jaya district police chief Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said in a statement yesterday. - Mkini
