Sarawak Bersatu Man Hopes Pn Will Field Him In Bintulu
SARAWAK POLLS | Sarawak Bersatu information chief Duke Janteng has urged the Perikatan Nasional leadership to field him as the candidate for Kemena.
According to Borneo Post, Duke (above) said his candidacy was supported by the majority of Bersatu members in Bintulu.
"We (hope to) contest under the Bersatu ticket but will continue to support Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the administration level," he added.
Duke said he was aware that if he was allowed by the party leadership to be a candidate, he would be facing a GPS incumbent but claimed that he was merely acting on the wishes of Bersatu members.
Since Bersatu set foot in Sarawak in 2018, Duke said he has been actively organising party activities in the Bintulu area, where the Kemena constituency is located.
He claimed that Bersatu has more than 23,000 members in the Bintulu area of which 13,000 are in Kemena alone.
Duke's claim meant that almost every voter in Kemena is a Bersatu member because, during the 2016 election, there were 12,991 registered voters in the constituency.
Previously, PN head Muhyiddin Yassin had revealed that his coalition will not be fielding candidates for the Sarawak election.
Friday hopes for support
Meanwhile, GPS candidate for Krian, Friday Belik, hoped he would receive support from incumbent Ali Biju and his supporters.
"I hope that he and his supports assist me. If that happens, our chances of winning are bright," he said, according to Utusan Borneo.
Yesterday, Ali said he might be seeking a third term as the Krian assemblyperson.
He said discussions involving Muhyiddin and GPS chairperson Abang Johari Openg were still ongoing. - Mkini
