Sanusi S Slur A Warning To Women Says Nurul Izzah
Nurul Izzah Anwar said Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Md Nor had forgotten that there were also PAS women candidates in the general election.PETALING JAYA: Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Md Nor was told off by PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar today for making a misogynistic comment about the Barisan Nasional’s woman candidate in Sik.
Sanusi had said BN should have chosen a male candidate as a woman would find it tough to serve the Sik electorate because the area is vast and rural with many poor residents and it might be beyond the capabilities of a woman.
Nural Izzah said Sanusi’s remark was a warning to women of their plight should Perikatan Nasional win a large number of seats in the general election.
“He has belittled women and has forgotten that there are some PAS women candidates in the elections,” Nurul Izzah told FMT.

Sanusi’s remark was captured in a video that made the rounds yesterday. He criticised BN’s decision to field Maizatul Akmam Othman for the Sik parliamentary seat.
He said that, without meaning to demean PAS Muslims, the area is vast and rural with many poor residents. He claimed it might be beyond the capabilities of women to serve there.
Nurul Izzah said Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto showed the coalition aimed to uplift women through its list of offerings, such as childcare subsidies for working women and universal child benefits to ensure every child receives the care they need up to six years old.
“We aim to mainstream the women’s agenda to ensure Malaysian mothers are afforded the rights to equal citizenship,” said Nurul Izzah, who is seeking a second term as MP for Permatang Pauh, Penang.
The PH candidate for Sik, Latifah Md Yatim, also lambasted Sanusi for his remarks belittling female candidates.
She said Sanusi should try tying a coconut around his stomach to know what it was like to be an expectant mother.
“Try to take a coconut and tie it to his stomach. While a woman is pregnant for nine months it’s like pawning her life. We’ll ask if he (Sanusi) can manage it,” she said, according to Malaysiakini.
FMT has reached out to Sanusi for his comment. - FMT
