Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Salahuddin Ayub says the support letter he wrote to the PM is not meant to enrich himself.PETALING JAYA: An Amanah leader claimed today that a senior official in the agriculture and agro-based industry ministry had sabotaged the minister, Salahuddin Ayub, in the RM1.4 billion padi tender
She said the official carried out the tender without the minister’s knowledge
“When it went to a Chinese company, the National Farmers Organisation (Nafas) begged the finance and agriculture ministries to obtain the tender, because if they didn’t, it will affect Nafas as the principal association for farmers, with 900,000 members
“The agriculture minister then wrote a letter to the prime minister to give the tender to Nafas
“But till today, Nafas hasn’t received the tender offer letter,” she wrote on Facebook
FMT is reaching out to the Amanah leader and the senior official for comments
The media had previously reported Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad claiming there’s possible sabotage among senior government officials by issuing or cancelling tenders without Salahuddin’s knowing
Earlier last week, Salahuddin admitted that he wrote a letter to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to recommend giving the RM1.4 billion padi plantation tender to Nafas
He maintained that there was nothing wrong in writing the recommendation letter because the tender had not been finalised and it would benefit the thousands of Nafas members. He denied it was meant to enrich himself
The tenders are now being finalised by the finance ministry
Before that, MCA president Wee Ka Siong had highlighted the letter to the PM in the Dewan Rakyat
Wee later said the crux of the issue was that PH was not abiding by its own principles
“All this while, PH leaders have talked about open tenders and that they are against direct negotiations and support letters. Now that they are in the government, they are doing the opposite. What is this?” - FMT
