Saifuddin Warns Opposition Leaders Risks More If Action Taken On 3r Issues

HOME Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has cautioned that opposition leaders would be the most impacted if authorities crack down on individuals who stir societal tensions by exploiting 3R (Religion, Race, and Royalty) issues for political gain.
He reminded political leaders not to use issues related to 3R as political tools, as such actions could destabilise the country.
“I can confirm that if action is taken based on existing laws, many of Yang Berhormat Takiyuddin’s (PAS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan) colleagues will be affected.
“If I or the police were to enforce provisions under the Penal Code, the Communications Act, or other laws, they would be among those most frequently subjected to action,” he said during a press conference on Saturday.
Saifuddin emphasised that politics should be based on policies and solutions to people’s issues, rather than relying on racial or religious sentiments for support.
His statement came after the PAS Secretary General, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan expressed support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s warning against exploiting racial and religious issues for political gain.
However, while aligning with the call for social harmony, he criticised the government for its lack of firm, fair, and transparent actions regarding Islam’s position in Malaysia.
On the other hand, PAS Ulama Council Chief Dato’ Ahmad Yahaya criticised the Madani Government for its perceived selective prosecution in handling 3R issues.
He questioned the government’s swift action against radio DJs accused of offending religious sensitivities while showing indifference toward insults against Islam.
Ahmad Yahaya argued that public frustration is growing due to the lack of fairness in law enforcement, highlighting that past controversial remarks by government ministers went unpunished. He urged for consistent and just enforcement of 3R-related issues.
“The Madani Government’s indifferent attitude toward 3R issues has fueled public anger. PAS Ulama Council does not intend to defend certain radio presenters involved in recent controversy,” he said.
“But why is the government suddenly speaking about 3R issues now, when its own ministers have previously made questionable statements without repercussions?” Yahya added.
According to him, PAS Ulama Council is also skeptical about how quickly action was taken against the radio DJs, yet no similar urgency was shown when Islam was insulted by certain parties.
“An insult to Islam is an insult to the nation and the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, who upholds Islam in this country,” he said in a statement on Facebook. — Focus Malaysia
