Selangor MCA liaison committee chairman Datuk Ng Chok Sin. - FAIHAN GHANI/The StarPETALING JAYA: The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) councillor who was arrested for allegedly defying the movement control order (MCO) should be sacked as a deterrent to others, says Selangor MCA
The state MCA liaison committee chairman Datuk Ng Chok Sin said the Pakatan Harapan state government should not tolerate any abuse of power or offences committed by its political appointees
“The behaviour has exceeded the conduct expected from city councillors, and the state government should immediately revoke his appointment
“Action should be taken against him based on the law, party ethics and MBSA’s code of conduct to serve as a deterrent to others, especially political appointees, as they should obey the law and fulfil the trust placed on them, ” he said in a statement on Sunday (April 5)
Ng also called on the police to thoroughly probe the councillor for allegedly abusing his authority by ordering a multi-purpose hall in Shah Alam to be opened for him and his friends to play badminton
“As a city councillor, he should be more familiar with the laws as well as local council regulations and guidelines
“He should adhere to the law to serve as a role model to society, ” he said, adding that the lack of response from Pakatan was disappointing
“Failure to act will render MBSA and the Selangor Pakatan government as practising favouritism, ” he added
On Saturday (April 4), the MBSA councillor and three others have been remanded by the police for allegedly defying the MCO
Selangor police spokesman on Covid-19, Asst Comm Ismail Muslim said they were arrested for playing badminton at an MBSA hall. - Star
