Sabah Umno Not Weak Bung Says No Hurry To Find Election Partners

Sabah Umno is in no hurry to seek new partners to face the 17th state election due this year, said its chief Bung Moktar Radin, reaffirming the party’s strength.
The Kinabatangan MP also reiterated Sabah Umno’s commitment to once again emerge as a dominant force.
“As a party long rooted in Sabah, we (Umno) have the right to who we want to form partnerships with.
“But before deciding on any political cooperation, our priority is to strengthen the party’s machinery at all levels,” said the former Sabah deputy chief minister.
“We must ensure Sabah Umno is in a strong position because if we are dominant, any parties that join us will also see Umno as the leader in the state’s political landscape,” he stressed.
Don’t fall for ‘sweet promises’
Bung (above) cited Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s speech at the recent Sabah Umno 34th anniversary celebrations in Tawau, on the importance of the party and Sabah BN to return as a dominant force.
The Lamag assemblyperson repeated Zahid’s reminder for Sabah Umno not to fall for “sweet promises” from parties initiating cooperation, but eventually resulted in losses for the party.
“Based on past experiences, Sabah Umno has come up with our own strategy and has a strong team to face any political situation.
“We do not need to rush to find coalition partners as Umno is not a weak party,” he added.
On Feb 10, Bung reportedly denied receiving any suggestion from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for the state division to collaborate with the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the upcoming state election.
Instead, Bung reiterated that Sabah Umno has consistently refused to work with GRS. - Mkini
