Sabah Scandal Latheefa To Reveal Important Development
Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) is set to hold a press conference tomorrow regarding the Sabah corruption scandal.
In a press release, LFL stated: “An important new development has emerged in this case, which will be addressed by former MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya.”
Co-founded by Latheefa (above), LFL has been actively involved in numerous justice-related issues, including advocating for a deaf e-hailing driver assaulted by a police escort of Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.
LFL highlighted growing public frustration over the “failure to take serious action” in the Sabah case.
“The series of videos exposing this scandal was first revealed in November last year. However, the whistleblower has been denied protection,” it said, adding that no one has been held accountable to date.
‘MACC used edited audio as evidence before’
Previously, Latheefa had asserted that the videos contained “clear evidence” of corruption and warranted an investigation.
“Let me explain why. The videos show several assemblypersons admitting they received money from a businessperson in exchange for supporting a mining exploration licence from the Sabah chief minister,” she stated.

MACC chief commissioner Azam BakiHowever, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki dismissed the videos as inadmissible evidence, claiming they had been edited.
Responding to this, Latheefa pointed out that in the past, the “Can I advise you something” audio clip involving a conversation between former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor had been used by MACC as evidence in court despite the video being an edited version.
The Sabah videos, which were released to Malaysiakini, were altered to distort the businessperson’s voice and conceal his identity.
In addition to the videos, the businessperson also provided a trove of WhatsApp messages detailing alleged conversations with the assemblypersons regarding the transactions. - Mkini
