The infectivity rate for Covid-19 in Sabah has shown a downward trend after a battle that has lasted more than a month so far. - Bernama picKOTA KINABALU: The infectivity rate for Covid-19 in Sabah has shown a downward trend after a battle that has lasted more than a month so far.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the R-naught (R0) for Sabah was currently at 1.0 which means each infected person can infect one other person, on average.
"The infectivity now is 1.0, compared to a month ago which was 1.6. It shows that Covid-19 cases have declined in tandem with the rest of the country," he said during a virtual press conference, adding however that there were still 6,139 Covid-19 samples to be processed.
Today, Sabah recorded 503 new cases and two deaths, one each in Sandakan and the state capital.
Kota Kinabalu remains the district with the highest new number of cases at 149, follwoed by Tawau (138), Putatan (42), Papar (37), Sandakan (34), Lahad Datu (29), Keningau (20), Penampang (19), Kota Belud (nine), Tuaran (eight), Semporna (seven), Kudat (five) , Kinabatangan and Kota Marudu (two each), and Telupid and Pitas (one each).
A new cluster in the Tawau Temporary Detention Centre also showed 104 of the detainees tested positive after screening.
Earlier, at a separate press conference by the National Security Council, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had approved the extension of the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) at Kepayan Prison and the prison quarters at Taman Mat Salleh at Kampung Matambai from tomorrow until Nov 16.

Masidi, who is state local government and housing minister, said the state government has agreed to give some relaxation for all localities mentioned for the EMCO, except the Kepayan Prison and detention centres.
"However, only one representative from each household is allowed to come out from the EMCO localities with approval from the police.
"The reason would only be to withdraw money from the automated teller machine and to buy basic and non-food items," he added.
As for the setting up a quarantine or low-risk treatment centre at Omadal island off Semporna, he said the islanders who tested positive have been sent to a quarantine and treatment centre at Bubul Ria in Semporna.
"As for close contacts, they have been told to quarantine themselves at home while the state government is coordinating with the district disaster operation centre to distribute food baskets for them. There is no necessity to set up a quarantine centre on the island," he added.
To date, there are 3,155 people receiving treatment, with 698 at hospitals and the remainer at low-risk centres. - NST
