Sabah Polls On Nov 29
Nomination day has been fixed for Nov 15.Early voters can cast their ballots for the Sabah state election on Nov 25.PETALING JAYA: The 17th Sabah state election will be held on Nov 29, the Election Commission (EC) announced today
In a press conference, EC chairman Ramlan Harun said nomination day had been fixed for Nov 15, while early voters can cast their ballots on Nov 25.
This follows the dissolution of the Sabah legislative assembly on Oct 6.
Ramlan said the election would cost an estimated RM116.8 million.
A total of 1,784,843 Sabahans are eligible to cast their ballots. The electoral roll comprises 1,760,417 ordinary voters, 11,697 military personnel and their spouses, and 12,729 police personnel and their spouses.
There will be 882 regular polling centres comprising 3,558 polling streams, and 58 early voting centres with 87 early polling streams. Altogether, there will be 940 polling centres with 3,645 polling streams.
A total of 25 nomination centres and official vote tallying centres will be used during the election, with a total of 33,002 election workers appointed to manage the process.
To encourage voter turnout, the EC will run a “Let’s Vote” (Jom Kita Undi) campaign through various media platforms including electronic media, social media, public service announcements, and banners at key public areas and other suitable locations.
The EC will also broadcast selected parts of the election process live via Facebook Live, similar to previous elections.
Applications for all categories of postal voting (domestic and overseas) opened on Monday (Oct 13) and will close on Nov 12 for election staff, EC members/officers, police, military personnel, and media workers.
It will close on Oct 21 for Malaysians living abroad.
This state election is shaping up to be yet another crowded contest, with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah set to clash with Barisan Nasional despite both coalitions reaching a pact with Pakatan Harapan.
Perikatan Nasional, Warisan, Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku, Sabah Progressive Party and Parti Gemilang Anak Sabah are also expected to field candidates for the 73 seats up for grabs. - FMT
