Sabah Mps Urge Opposition To Cease Attempts To Topple Govt

Two Sabah MPs have urged the opposition to cease any attempts to topple the government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Tenon MP Riduan Rubin said the coalition government needs all forms of support to enable it to focus on overcoming the economic challenges faced by the country and its people.
“I am extremely worried and concerned that this (attempts to topple the government) could cripple the government’s efforts to handle such problems, thus leading to economic instability.
“For example, my constituency (Tenom) really needs the coalition government to remain stable in order to solve the rakyat’s problems, ranging from water to electricity supply issues, roads, and internet access problems, as well as housing and economic issues,” Riduan said in a statement today.
“To cool off the country’s political temperature, I urge all quarters, be it those aligned to the government or the opposition, to put their differences aside and come together to solve the common issues faced by the rakyat,” he added.
The Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) lawmaker was commenting on rumours that the opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional (PN) has enough “numbers” to unseat the coalition government.
Following the 15th general election, no party or coalition managed to secure an absolute majority.
Following a brief political deadlock, the Anwar-led Pakatan Harapan managed to secure sufficient support to form the current coalition government.
The alliance includes 82 seats from Harapan, BN (30), GPS (23), GRS (six), Warisan (three), KDM (two), one from Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM), and one independent MP, Vernon Bahanda.
Meanwhile, Kota Marudu MP Wetrom Bahanda echoed Riduan’s call and voiced his utmost support for Anwar as the prime minister.
“I am confident with the PM’s capability to take Malaysia to the next level, and championing poverty issues concerning the people in Kota Marudu, and Sabah in general,” Wetrom, who is also KDM deputy president, said in a statement. - Mkini
