Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said Kota Kinabalu recorded the highest number of fatalities with 19 cases. -NSTP file picKOTA KINABALU: Sabah's Covid-19 deaths saw 41 cases today as the state recorded a slight drop in the number of coronavirus cases.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said Kota Kinabalu recorded the highest number of fatalities with 19 cases.
"This was followed by five deaths in Sandakan, four in Tuaran, three each in Penampang and Keningau, two each in Beaufort, Lahad Datu and Kalabakan, and one in Tenom," he said in a statement this evening.
Sabah's daily fatalities saw a record today from its previous high of 28 cases on Aug 12.
Today the Borneo state also recorded 3,010 new infections including 1,901 from backlog cases.
Masidi said out of the 3,010 cases, 278 cases comprised babies (44) and children aged 1 to 5 (234).
"Another 1,918 cases are those between 18 and 59 years old, 571 cases involve 6 to 17-year-olds and 243 cases involve those above 60 years old," he said.
Most of the patients either had light or no (Covid-19) symptoms.
"A total of 2,943 or 97.77 per cent of the caseload were in categories 1 and 2, eight cases in category 3, one case in category 4, and 15 cases in category 5. Another 43 cases still under investigation," said Masidi.
He added that the number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care units (ICU) rose to 272, with 76 on ventilator support. Yesterday, only 174 patients were under intensive care, 78 of whom were on ventilators.
Masidi said Kota Kinabalu remains at the top of the list with 617 cases, followed by Penampang with 390 cases, Sandakan (284 cases), Tawau (219 cases), Papar (198 cases), Tuaran (175 cases), Lahad Datu (146 cases) and Putatan (135 cases).
"On backlogs, there were 1,206 overdue cases from two to three days ago, 213 overdue cases from four to five days ago and 482 overdue cases from over five days ago," he said
Close contacts continued to be the largest contributor with 1,782 cases, making up 59.2 per cent of the caseload, while symptomatic cases accounted for 31.4 per cent of the caseload with 946 cases.
On Sabah's vaccination programme, Masidi said 56.05 per cent of Sabah's adult population have completed their first dose, whereas 35.44 per cent have been fully vaccinated, as of Aug 27. - NST
