Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali confirmed there were no such incidents and told the people to stop spreading fake news.
Earlier, Sabah PKR youth chief Raymond Ahuar had claimed that a mother in Keningau had tried to sell off her three children.
He had claimed that the parent did so as she was facing financial difficulties after losing income due to the implementation of the Movement Control Order.
Keningau police chief Deputy Superintendent Shahrudin Mat Husain had clarified that the case was of a husband and wife who were arrested for drug offences.
The man was arrested on May 22 and charged in court under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(a)(1) of the same act, while the woman, who is also a mother of three children, was arrested after she tested positive for methamphetamine on June 11.
"During the arrest, two children aged 5 and 7 months, with their mother, were handed over to the Social Welfare Department. The eldest child, a 7-year-old, was handed to the department the next day," he said when contacted today.
He said earlier, investigations revealed the woman had applied for financial assistance from the public to pay for her husband's court bail.
"There is no offence related to the sale of children by the mother and there is no issue of human trafficking in the Keningau district." - NST
