Pkr Youth Chief Backs Call For Azmin S Resignation Takes Aim At Zuraida
PKR Youth has sounded its battle cry as Malaysia continues to fight a war against Covid-19, targeting two former party leaders turned ministers in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration.
PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasir (above) in his keynote speech at the wing's annual congress today, highlighted alleged weaknesses by former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and former women's wing chief Zuraida Kamaruddin in their current minister roles.
Akmal also supported an online petition urging Azmin's resignation as the international trade and industry minister for allegedly failing in his duties, resulting in the "half-baked" movement control orders.
"We can see from the petition against (Pasir Salak MP) Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, (which garnered) 139,000 (virtual) signatures, he had to resign as Prasarana chairperson.
"Today we see the petition against Azmin, 172,000 (virtual) signatures. As PKR Youth chairperson and representing Johor Baru voters, I urge all of you to also show support," said the Johor Baru MP.
"If we can reach 200,000 signatures, we will see whether the prime minister will dare ask Azmin to resign or otherwise," Akmal added.
Azmin has been under fire over a large number of businesses - particularly those in the manufacturing sector - that were allowed to continue their operations during the total lockdown period.
Malaysiakini previously reported that some non-essential services received approval but essential sectors such as food and beverage outlets were struggling with the unstable Covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS 3.0) website.
Akmal also highlighted concerns over financial burdens faced by youths, including buyers of the PR1MA housing project under Zuraida's purview.
He noted that the housing and local government minister had maintained her portfolio since the Pakatan Harapan era, yet still failed to address the alleged issues.
"Many were fooled because they thought projects backed by the government would not face any problems.
"However, there are many abandoned or delayed PR1MA projects, resulting in buyers forced to make payments to the bank despite waiting years for their homes.
"(She is) the only minister holding the same portfolio of housing and local government for three years but seen as unable to resolve the issue of affordable housing," he said.

Akmal further said PKR Youth is ready to hold a nationwide road tour, once the Covid-19 pandemic is under control, to expose the extent of the problematic PR1MA projects.
'More youths for GE15'
Ahead of the 15th general election (GE15), Akmal called on PKR leaders to make room for more youth candidates, both to reclaim seats lost to "party traitors" and also potential new seats.
"Selection of candidates must be more stringent.
"Individuals whose loyalty to the Reformasi movement is doubted should be rejected because we do not want to commit the same mistake twice," he stressed.
Akmal said PKR Youth has also suggested for all component parties to once again contest under the PKR logo for GE15, as a sign of their unity.
The PKR annual congress was held online for the first time this year in light of Covid-19 restrictions.
A total of seven delegates from Kedah, Kelantan, Perak, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca and Sarawak were selected to debate Akmal's keynote address. - mkini
