Rosmah Trial Tycoon S Aide Acceded To Rizal S Request For Consultancy Agreement
ROSMAH TRIAL | The person who prepared a consultancy agreement in relation to the Sarawak solar project told the Kuala Lumpur High Court that he drafted the agreement based on a sample from the Internet as he had never prepared such an agreement before. Lawrence Tee Kien Moon, who claimed that he had worked with tycoon Desmond Lim since 1997, alleged that Rosmah Mansor's aide, Rizal Mansor (above), had asked him to prepare the agreement during a meeting in May 2016
"At this meeting, Rizal told me that I had to prepare a consultancy agreement for a project to supply and instal solar panels at over 300 schools in Sarawak. I questioned the request he made and gave him the same response as I did to Rayyan, that the agreement could be prepared by Jepak Holdings' lawyer
"I also told Rizal that I had never prepared such an agreement and had to get my lawyer to prepare it. He then told me that I had to do it because 'ma'am' wanted that
"I did not ask him who was 'ma'am' but I acceded to his request because Rizal was the special officer of Rosmah," he said
Rayyan refers to Jepak Holdings managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin's business partner Rayyan Radzwill Abdullah
Saidi Abang SamsudinEarlier, Lawrence, who runs a property development company, claimed that Lim had introduced him to Rizal and Saidi at Pavilion in March 2016 to help with preparing the paperwork for a solar project in Sarawak
At that time, Lawrence alleged that he did not know Rizal was Rosmah's aide until he saw him in the news on Malaysiakini
Lawrence alleged that several days after the May 2016 meeting, Rizal had contacted him to enquire about the agreement
"At that time I was in Vietnam. After that phone conversation, I passed a thumb drive containing a sample consultancy agreement which I found on the Internet to my secretary for printing
"I found the sample during my free time in Singapore. I searched for 'template' and samples of consultancy agreement to be used as a reference in the preparation of the said consultancy agreement
"I selected certain clauses which I then retyped into the consultancy agreement consisting of four pages and has a schedule 'template'," he said
Lawrence's testimony today came after Saidi told the court on Aug 5 that a tycoon was roped in to help "legalise" the alleged kickbacks to Rosmah, and that Rizal had brought him to meet Lim and Lawrence at a Pavilion office
Jepak signs agreement with Taiwan-based firm as consultantLawrence said that Jepak Holdings then entered into an agreement with Taiwan-based company Lucky Victory Limited as a consultant
"I chose Lucky Victory Limited which is an 'offshore company' based in Taiwan because its director is someone known to me and he had previously carried out a project relating to timber concession with the Sarawak state government," he said
For the record, Saidi had allegedly promised to pay RM187.5 million to Rosmah after she purportedly agreed to help him secure the RM1.25 billion hybrid solar project from the government
Lawrence claimed that he did not receive any payment for preparing the agreement
"I did it because Rizal said 'ma'am' wanted me to prepare the said agreement. I acceded because Rizal was the special officer of Rosmah."
Earlier today, Rosmah's counsel Akberdin Abdul Kader failed to convince judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan to impeach Saidi for allegedly giving conflicting statements
The corruption trial before Mohamed Zaini continues tomorrow
Rosmah, who is the wife of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, is facing three charges pertaining to the alleged misappropriation of funds for the supply and installation of solar energy panels at 369 rural schools in Sarawak for the Education Ministry
She faces one count of soliciting RM187.5 million and two charges of receiving a bribe of RM6.5 million from Saidi as a reward for helping the company secure the RM1.25 billion project obtained through direct negotiations with the ministry. - Mkini
