Rosmah S Second Solar Project Graft Case Transferred To High Court
Rosmah Mansor's second graft case involving kickbacks received in relation to a solar hybrid project for rural Sarawak schools has been transferred from the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to the High Court
This came after Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali allowed the transfer application by DPP Ahmad Akram Gharib today
Rosmah's counsel Akberdin Abdul Kader told the court that the defence had no objection to the application
On June 20, the wife of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak had withdrawn her appeal against the prosecution's application to transfer her case from the Sessions Court to the High Court
"As the other cases against the respondent (Rosmah) had been transferred (earlier) to the High Court, the (present transfer) application is not objected to by the respondent, and this case is of public interest, I believe that the present case should be transferred per Section 417(1)(e) of the Criminal Procedure Code," Nazlan ruled in allowing the application
On April 10, Rosmah claimed trial to the charge of receiving RM5 million in return for helping Jepak Holdings obtain a contract to install solar panels at 369 rural schools in Sarawak
The RM1.25 billion contract from the Education Ministry was secured through direct negotiation. The former premier's wife was accused of receiving the kickback from Saidi Abang Samsudin, managing director of Jepak Holdings, via her former aide Rizal Mansor.Prior to this, Rosmah had also pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court last November to soliciting RM187.5 million through Rizal, and for receiving an RM1.5 million bribe in relation to the project
Last October, she was slapped with 17 counts of money laundering involving around RM7.1 million under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001
