Rosmah S Bid To Postpone Corruption Case Appeal Fixed On July 7
The Court of Appeal has set Friday this week to hear Rosmah Mansor’s application to postpone the mid-July hearing of her appeal to quash her corruption conviction as well as 10-year jail sentence and RM970 million fine.
Lawyer Akberdin Abdul Kader, who acts for the wife of incarcerated former premier Najib Abdul Razak, this morning confirmed the hearing date set on July 7.
The counsel added that Rosmah’s (above) defence team as well as the prosecution has exchanged documents for the hearing. Malaysiakini is attempting to reach out to the prosecution over the matter.
Rosmah’s graft appeal - involving an RM1.25 billion solar hybrid energy project for 369 schools in Sarawak - was initially set for hearing before the Court of Appeal (criminal jurisdiction) on July 11.
However, last month, it was reported that she was seeking to postpone the July hearing of her main solar graft case appeal, pending the disposal of another appeal before the Federal Court.
The said apex court appeal is in relation to her bid to obtain leave to commence with a civil court challenge to nullify the entire corruption case against her.
On Sept 1 last year, the High Court (criminal jurisdiction) in Kuala Lumpur convicted her in the graft case and sentenced her to 10 years of imprisonment and RM970 million fine.
However, she obtained a stay of execution against the sentencing, pending disposal of her appeal before the Court of Appeal.
In relation to her civil challenge, she contended that the solar corruption case against her is a nullity from the onset due to the invalid appointment of the late former Federal Court judge, Gopal Sri Ram as lead prosecutor in her graft case. - Mkini
