Rm40m Proves Govt Not Sidelining Indians Prabakaran Says
Batu MP P Prabakaran has hailed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement of RM40 million in allocations for programmes benefiting the Indian community, stressing that it puts to rest opposition claims of neglect.
Prabakaran (above, centre), who also chairs the Special Committee of the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra), said the opposition has been deliberately misleading the community for political mileage.
“We warmly welcome and deeply thank the prime minister for the very good announcement made for the Indian community.
“The PM reminded Parliament and the public that the government has never sidelined the Indian community.
"But out there, politicians and social media users have been misleading the community.
"Today, the PM has assured that the government will provide fair funding regardless of religion or race, as we see ourselves as one Malaysia,” he said during a press conference in Parliament.
He outlined four programmes under the RM40 million allocation:
• RM5 million to upgrade infrastructure in Indian villages, on top of the RM10 million allocated in Budget 2025 for the Housing and Local Government Ministry.
• RM5 million to upgrade ICT labs in Tamil schools (SJKT).
• RM20 million to strengthen Hindu places of worship as community centres under the National Unity Ministry.
• RM10 million for one-on-one assistance to carry out minor repairs and maintenance of houses for B40 Indian plantation workers.
According to Prabakaran, this brings total allocations for the community this year to around RM62.3 million.
“I once again extend my deepest thanks to the prime minister for this very meaningful announcement.
“I also want to advise opposition cyber troopers, who keep spreading misleading facts and provoking the Indian community, to stop doing so. This is a very positive announcement.
“Beyond this, RM1 billion has also been channelled through the Rahmah cash aid for the Indian community.
"So there is no need to spread falsehoods on social media,” he added.
Strengthening Hindu houses of worship
Deputy National Unity Minister K Saraswathy welcomed the RM20 million allocation to strengthen the functions of Hindu houses of worship as community centres.

Deputy National Unity Minister K SaraswathyShe also reiterated Anwar's explanation on changes in the government's approach to distributing Mitra funds, compared to previous years.
"The prime minister has stressed good governance, and therefore, the disbursement and monitoring are placed under ministries that are tasked with strengthening specific initiatives.
"So this is a new approach, which some people who are making noise about the lack of announcements or allocations to associations have failed to understand," she stressed.
Prabakaran and Saraswathy were joined by Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan and Sungai Petani MP Taufiq Johari, who both echoed the government's commitment towards eradicating hardcore poverty, including among Indians. - Mkini
