Report Despite Ge15 Rout Harapan Eyes 12 Seats In Terengganu
Terengganu Pakatan Harapan was said to be eyeing 12 out of 32 seats in the upcoming state election.
This was revealed by Terengganu Umno information chief Nik Dir Nik Wan Ku, following informal discussions between BN and Harapan.
Commenting on an Utusan Malaysia report which claimed that Terengganu Umno division chiefs were against an electoral pact with Harapan, Nik Dir said such problems never arose.
"There is no official decision on seat distribution yet. It was just an informal discussion between BN and Harapan in the state.
"That's when we asked Harapan how many seats they wanted. They mentioned 12 seats and named their candidates," he said, according to The Malaysian Insight.
Terengganu Umno information chief Nik Dir Nik Wan KuNik Dir said Terengganu Umno head Ahmad Said had cautioned the Harapan delegation that some of the latter's candidates may lose their deposits.
"That's all that happened. We never said we wanted to protest because there is no final decision yet,” he said.
On May 7, Utusan Malaysia reported that Harapan was eyeing Cukai, Kemasik, Sura, Rantau Abang, Rhu Rendang, Alor Limbat, Bandar, Batu Buruk, Manir, Buluh Gading, Kota Putera and Jabi - all seats held by PAS.
During the parliamentary elections last year, Harapan suffered a major rout in Terengganu - where all eight candidates lost their deposits.
As for BN, they emerged as the clear second choice, winning 32 percent of the popular vote - about half of Perikatan Nasional's impressive 62 percent, which allowed them to sweep all eight parliamentary seats.
Meanwhile, Ahmad said Umno has no problems working with Harapan to take on PN in Terengganu.
Ahmad, who is also Kijal state assemblyperson, said Umno and Harapan were already cooperating at the federal level and this would be continued for the sake of stability in the country.
"Politics is dynamic, not static. That’s why people say there are no permanent enemies or friends in politics," he told reporters at the Ketengah Aidilfitri open house in Dungun, Terengganu yesterday, according to Bernama.
Terengganu Umno chief Ahmad SaidAhmad said Terengganu Umno and Harapan had negotiated seat allocation for the state polls but had yet to reach a final decision.
"We have discussed but no decisions yet as bargaining is going on," he added. - Mkini
