Repairs To Serdang Hospital Heart Centre To Begin Next Month

The Selangor health department has confirmed technical issues, involving the electrical supply and high humidity levels, at the heart surgery complex at the Serdang hospital in Selangor. (Wikipedia pic)PETALING JAYA: Repairs to defects found in the surgery complex at the Sultan Idris Shah Hospital Heart Centre in Serdang, Selangor, will be carried out by next month.
Health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said this assurance was given by the project contractor, Bernama reported.
This followed a meeting by the contractor with the Selangor health department and the public works department recently.
“We want to ensure that they meet the deadline.
“The new building, with four operating theatres that are not functioning, is severely affecting the delivery services of the heart centre,” Dzulkefly said after visiting the construction site for an additional building at the Sultanah Maliha Hospital in Langkawi today.
The Selangor health department had earlier confirmed technical issues facing the heart surgery complex, including electrical supply and high humidity levels.
Dzulkefly said emergency cases would be referred to other facilities such as the National Heart Institute.
Dzulkefly and works minister Alexander Nanta Linggi accompanied the Sultan of Kedah, Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, and the Sultanah of Kedah, Sultanah Maliha Tengku Ariff, to inspect the work on the hospital building in Langkawi.
He said the construction work, which commenced on Jan 20, 2022, was ahead of schedule by 15 days, reaching 22.5%.
The project, scheduled to be completed by Dec 26 next year, involves a contract cost of RM425 million.
This will increase the number of specialised services and reduce the dependency and referrals of patients to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar, and other hospitals.
“This additional building will also increase the number of beds from 110 to 330. The project is to accommodate the growing population of Langkawi and the increasing number of tourists,” Dzulkefly said. - FMT
