One Dead One Hurt After Tree Falls Near Monorail Track In City Centre
One died while another was left injured after bad weather caused a tree to fall on their vehicles in front of Shangri-La Hotel, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.
In a statement, Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department assistant director for operations M Fatta M Amin said the deceased was a 47-year-old Malay male and the one injured was a 26-year-old Malay male.
“The injured victim is receiving treatment from paramedics attached to a local public health facility,” he said.
Fatta said the fallen tree affected 17 vehicles nearby and debris from the tree blocked a monorail track near the place.
He added that the mishap damaged a nearby bus stop.
On the search and rescue effort, Fatta said it involved 27 firefighters from four stations – Jalan Hang Tuah, Sentul, Titiwangsa and Jalan Tun Razak.
Authorities working swiftly
Rapid KL confirmed that its train service between the KL Sentral and Medan Tuanku stations has been suspended as a tree branch fell on the rail tracks near the Raja Chulan station at 2.20pm.
“We have now activated shuttle bus services from KL Sentral to Medan Tuanku.
“The train service between Titiwangsa and Medan Tuanku has also been activated,” it said in a statement.
Rapid KL added that it was now collaborating with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
“We will provide updates on the matter periodically on our social media platforms and the Pulse application.
“We would like to apologise to our passengers for this unforeseen incident and extend our appreciation for your patience.” - Mkini
