Remember Pos Malaysia Gobind
TODAY is January 15th, the second week of 2020.
Still no positive sign that the government will approve a new tariff hike for Pos Malaysia. Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo had on early December last year promised 'good news' for the company and its about 30,000 workers.
I dunno what's the status now but I would like to make believe and console the employees that there will be something for them, sooner of later to end their 10 years agony of waiting.
Maybe he was busy yesterday when senior staff of National News Agency Bernama made a visit to MalaysiaKini office. Sound weird, isn't it. Unless Mkini staff visit Bernama, then it will be different. I also heard about the plan to deploy Mkini journalists at Bernama. No further comment on this.
My attention is still Pos Malaysia and the plight in business. Why on earth they are left to subscribe to old tariffs when postal companies around the world are making big bucks from their businesses? What's keeping our government too long to notice that the basic pay for postmen is around RM1,000, much lower that the national floor wage of RM1,200?
Pity those postmen and other staff. They are made to serve the nation and the public on 'tokens'. As no other postal company are willing to do the end-mile delivery, for instance in remote Sabah and Sarawak, they have to make to with little pay and insufficient asset.
There are complaints from certain quarters that the hike soon is another political move by Pakatan Harapan government, that it will be burdensome for the people. Wrong. Its nothing politics because the previous government had done similar things.
I believe the hike will be moderate to put Pos Malaysia on track with international carriers. However, the Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) must wake up to identify the abundant of opportunity for Pos Malaysia to stand tall with others, and not too much focusing on telecommunication companies and 'make something' out of it.
Also, stop personal glory at MCMC. I heard about some senior officials didn't give proper attention to Pos Malaysia because the company has nothing to offer. May, and maybe not true but still, I would like to see them taking actions to make Pos Malaysia great again.
To Gobind, dont play too much politics. Deliver what you have promised. Together with MCMC the regulator, you will be remembered as the minister who turnaround Pos Malaysia with sound decisions. They are banking high hope on you.
