Reforms Muhyiddin Offered To Harapan Still On The Table Wan Junaidi

The reforms former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin had offered to the opposition in a last-ditch effort to prevent the collapse of his government will still be considered by the new administration, said de facto Law Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
Even though the opposition did not accept Muhyiddin's offer and his government eventually fell, the new administration will study the proposals he made, Wan Junaidi said.
"The government transformation I spoke about is based on what Muhyiddin (above) mentioned when the then prime minister made the offer to Pakatan Harapan.
"I will study all the proposals he made including firstly, to limit the prime minister's tenure, secondly, on anti-hopping laws and thirdly, the implementation of Undi18," he added.
However, Umno's Pengerang MP Azalina Othman Said's push for a recall election law may not be as smooth sailing.
Wan Junaidi noted that what Azalina proposed will be in the form of a private member's bill.

He said if it is up to mark, it can be included in the Parliament's order paper.
Whether the private member's bill gets priority, however, is up to Parliament, the minister added. 
"As a member of the executive, there is no need for me to interfere in the affairs of Parliament," he said.
By convention, government affairs will always take precedence over non-government motions or private members' bills.
This means that without government intervention to allow a private member's bill to skip existing government affairs, it is unlikely to ever see the light of day on the Parliament floor.

The recall election is seen as an alternative to banning party-hopping.
A similar anti-party-hopping law in Kelantan was previously declared unconstitutional as it violated the freedom of association.
A recall election, on the other hand, allows voters to vote out an MP that they feel has failed them and replace him or her with a new candidate.
