Recovery Mco Extended Until Dec 31
COVID-19 | The recovery movement control order (MCO) has been extended until the end of the year
In a public address tonight, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin assured that the pandemic was under control but said the government needed to continue being able to enforce the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 to handle outbreaks when they occur
“This means the government still needs legal mechanisms to continue its efforts to prevent and control the spread of Covid-19
“Thus, in the interest of everyone, the government has decided that the recovery MCO will be extended to Dec 31, 2020
“With this extension of the recovery MCO, enforcement action can still be taken under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 or Act 342
“This is to ensure all parties adhere to the standard operation procedures (SOPs) and health protocols that have been set,” he said
Muhyiddin pointed to the recent Sivagangga, Tawar and Sala and Sanglang clusters to stress that the country continued to be threatened by the virus
The recovery MCO, which began on June 10, was originally slated to end on Aug 31
In line with the extension, the PM also announced that the government’s Covid-19 Fund would continue receiving donations until Dec 31
“Contributions to the fund will be used to help Covid-19 victims and provide necessities to combat the pandemic,” he said
The fund was set up on March 10 to assist those who had lost their incomes or were financially affected by Covid-19. - Mkini
